On Saturday, October 7, 2023, Hamas brutally attacked and killed men (of all ages), the women were raped and killed, cutting open pregnant women and killing their babies, and even beheading babies and toddlers.  There is NO excuse for the atrocities of these animals.  Yet there are people all around the world who are chanting that Isra’el brought these atrocities upon themselves.  These would be the same people who would say that the genocide that came against the Jews during the Holocaust was deserved.  These people have no morals, no conscience, and they will face God’s judgment equally with Hamas for this barbarous behavior.  This only goes to show continuing battle against the Spirit of Amalek.

THE ACCOUNT OF AMALEK

In the Written Torah, in the book of Shemot (Exodus), there is an account of Isra’el’s first battle with Amalek at Rephidim.  In this account, we also have the name Y’hoshua (Joshua) and the word ’emunah (trans. “faith” in Habakkuk 2:4) in its full form.  In Shemot (Exodus) 17, we read,

Then Amalek came and fought against Isra’el at Rephidim.  Moshe said to Y’hoshua (Joshua), “Choose men for us, go out, and fight with ‘Amalek.  Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with God’s staff in my hand.” Y’hoshua did as Moshe had told him and fought with Amalek.  Then Moshe, Aharon and Hur went up to the top pf the hill.  When Moshe raised his hand, Isra’el prevailed; but when he let it down, ‘Amalek prevailed.  However, Moshe’s hands grew heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it.  Aharon and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side and the other on the other; so that his hands were STEADY [Heb. ’emunah] until sunset.  Thus Y’hoshua defeated Amalek, putting their people to the sword.

ADONAI said to Moshe, “Write this in a book to be remembered, and tell it to Y’hoshua: I will completely blot out any memory of ‘Amalek from under heaven.”  Moshe built an altar; called it ADONAI NISSI (“ADONAI is my banner/miracle”), and said, “Because their hand was against the throne of Yah, ADONAI will fight against ‘Amalek generation after generation. [Shemot (Exodus) 17: 1-16, CJB; emphasis added]

Here we can see that as the children of Isra’el were making their way through the deserts on their way to the Promised Land that Amalek came and fought against them.  It was ‘Amalek who began the fight with them, and Isra’el responded by fighting in defense.  The fact that Amalek arose up against them as the people of Isra’el (Jews) were on their way to the land that God had promised them has forever made the Amalek, or the Amalekites, a picture of the enemies of not only Isra’el but of God Himself.

BUT WHO WAS THE ‘AMALEKITES?

According to Baruch Allen’s article, “Who was Amalek and the Amalekites?” on the Chabad.org website,

The Amalekites, descendants of Amalek, were an ancient biblical nation living near the land of Canaan. They were the first nation to attack the Jewish people after the Exodus from Egypt, and they are seen as the archetypal enemy of the Jews. The nation of Amalek is long gone, but they live on as the internal enemies that we each battle on a daily basis.

Here we can see that Amalek, or the Amalekites, were not only a real people, but they, in fact, arose to fight the people of Isra’el who were making their way to the land that God had promised the land to their ancestors and the patriarchs – Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

THE PROMISED LAND

The fact is that Isra’el has not yet ever owned all the land that God promised them.  In Genesis 15, God promised Abraham and his descendants, Isra’el, the following lands:

To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt [the Nile River] as far as the great river, the river Euphrates: The Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephadim and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite. [Bereshith (Genesis) 15:18-21, NASB]

This would consist of the following countries today: the Egyptian Peninsula; the whole nation of Isra’el, including the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, Jordan, Most of Syria, half of Iraq; and part of Saudi Arabia.  Obviously, Isra’el only inhabits only a small portion of what God promised Isra’el that it would have one day.  I believe this promise will be fulfilled during the coming Messianic Kingdom.  And since the earth belongs to the God of Isra’el, it is His to give to whomever He wishes.  It is not for anyone to argue with Him since He is the sole Creator and Owner of the Planet.

Who Was Amalek?

Further on, Allen defined Amalek in his article as

Eliphaz, son of Esau (the patriarch Jacob’s brother and sworn enemy), and his concubine Timna had a child named Amalek.  Amalek grew up in Esau’s household, imbibing Esau’s pathological hatred of Jacob’s descendants along the way. His offspring became the nation of Amalek, and they lived to the south of the Land of Israel, in what is now known as the Negev Desert.

What is interesting about Amalek, or the Amalekites, is that they were the first nation to come up against the Israelites who were walking through the land on their way to the land that they were promised by God, or what is now called Isra’el.  These people attacked Isra’el without being provoked but simply for their own pleasure and greed.  As a result, this is a people that we see Isra’el and the God of Isra’el fighting throughout the Tanakh, the Hebrew Scriptures.

ANOTHER BATTLE WITH THE AMALEKITES

Sh’mu’el (Samuel) said to King Sha’ul (Saul),

ADONAI sent me to anoint you king over his people, over Isra’el.  Now listen to what ADONAI has to say.  Here is what ADONAI-T’zva’ot (“the LORD of hosts”) says: “I remember what ‘Amalek did to Isra’el, how they fought against Isra’el when they were coming up from Egypt.  Now go and attack ‘Amalek, and completely destroy everything they have.  Don’t spare them, but kill men and women, children and babies, cows and sheep, camels and donkeys.” [Sh’mu’el Alef (I Samuel) 15: 1-2, CJB]

A LESSON IN WORLD HISTORY

This battle was between the kingdom of Isra’el, which existed for at least 1,000 years before the existence of Islam.  In 70 C.E., the Romans either killed or removed many Jewish men and women from the land of Isra’el after they had destroyed Jerusalem and the Holy Temple, but there were some Jewish men and women who were still left there in the land.  It was actually the Arabs in the seventh and eighth century that began to push them out of the land and take it for themselves.  It was the Muslim Arabs who were the historical “colonizers” – not the Jewish people.  The Jewish people were the ones who were there for at least 3,300 years before being pushed out by Rome and then by the Arabs about six centuries later.  Isra’el was a country there in the land for about at least 1, 880 years BEFORE there was ever such a thing as a Palestinian people. Obviously, the claims of the Palestinian people to the ownership of the land is completely fictional and bogus.

IS GOD HOLY OR A GOD OF LOVE?

Now I can imagine many people wondering, “Where is the ‘God of love’ that Christianity talks about?” Although “love” is a characteristic of God, it is not His essence.  There is only one verse in the entire Bible that says, “God is love” (I John 4:8).  However, the problem is that people read into that their own definition of “love,” instead of how God defines it.  There is also no verse or passage anywhere in the Bible where God ever calls Himself, “the Loving One,” or ever calls His Spirit as “the Loving Spirit.” Thus, Christianity has failed at communicating God’s quintessential essence.

Instead, people need to know that instead of “love,” God’s quintessential nature is that “He is holy, holy, holy” (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8).  The word “holy” comes from the Hebrew word Kadosh (H6918), which means “to separate,” “to make distinct,” “sacred” and “unique.” For example, in contrast to the one verse where it is written “God is love” (I John 4:8), there are 31 verses which refers to God as “the Holy One of Israel.”

THE GOD OF ISRA’EL

In fact, Isra’el is the ONLY NATION AND PEOPLE that God identifies within the Bible.  For example,

  • The Holy One of Jacob (Isaiah 29:23)
  • The God of Israel (147 times!)
  • The LORD God of Israel (43 times!)
  • The Hope of Israel (Jeremiah 14:8; 17:13)
  • The King of Israel (Isaiah 44:6)
  • The Creator of Israel (Isaiah 43:15)
  • The Shepherd of Israel (Psalms 80:1)
  • The Mighty One of Israel (Isaiah 1:24)
  • The Redeemer of Israel (Isaiah 49:7)
  • The Salvation of Israel (Jeremiah 3:23)
  • The God of all the families of Israel (Jeremiah 31:1)
  • The Strength of Israel (I Samuel 15:29)
  • The Rock of Israel (2 Samuel 23:3)

In other words, the moment you attack Isra’el and the Jewish people, you attack the God of Isra’el.  And it is only a matter of time when judgment will be given by the God of Isra’el for what has been done.

THE GOD WHO KEEPS COVENANT

And not only does God identify Himself with the people and nation of Israel, but God is a God that Keeps His Covenant with Israel.  For example, in Deuteronomy 7, we read,

Know therefore that the LORD (Heb. ADONAI) your God, He is God, the faithful God, WHO KEEPS HIS COVENANT and His lovingkindness (Heb. chesed) to a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; but repays those who hate Him to their faces, to destroy them; He will not delay with him who hates Him, He will repay him to his face. [Devarim (Deuteronomy) 7:9-10).

This was so important to God that He commands everyone to know, or understand, this about Him.  In contrast to what Christianity teaches about God having 7-9 different covenants, He only has One Eternal Covenant.  However, this One Eternal Covenant is made up of 7 parts, which begin at different times, but once they begin, they all continue simultaneously at the same time.  One “alleged covenant” NEVER replaces another “covenant.”

TO ATTACK ISRA’EL IS TO ATTACK GOD

I say all of this to say that anyone or any group or any country who dares to raise a hand against Isra’el, or to attack them, as Hamas has done has placed itself under the judgment of God.  In fact, in the Torah, Shemot (Exodus) 17, God promises,

[Shemot (Exodus) 17: 14-16, CJB; emphasis added]

Because Hamas has placed “their hand against the throne of Yah,” (the people and nation of Isra’el), ADONAI, the God of Isra’el, will fight against ‘Amalek (Hamas, in this case) until their memory is completely blotted out from under heaven,” as He has promised.

A LATER BATTLE WITH AMALEKITES

We see this later in Israeli history.  For example, in Persia (Ancient Iran), there was an Amalekite living there in the land by the name of Haman.  He was actively climbing his way up the social ladder of King Xerxes (aka, Achashverosh).  As part of his plan, he arranged to have all the Jews in Persia exterminated all on the same day.  However, he did not count on the newly selected Queen, Esther, being a Jew herself, or how the God of Isra’el was about to change the results of what happened.  Rather than there being a Jewish Genocide, as Haman had planned, the Jews were allowed to protect themselves and Haman was taken out and hung on the very gallows he had intended for Esther’s uncle, Mordekhai (Mordecai) (Esther 7:10).  Then during the battle, we read,

The Jews put all their enemies to the sword; there was great slaughter and destruction, as they did whatever they wanted to those who hated them.  In Shushan the capital, the Jews slaughtered 500 men – They put to death the ten sons of Haman the son of Hamdata, the enemy of the Jews….But they did not touch the spoil. (Esther 9:5-6, 10).

Haman sought to exterminate the Jewish people there in Persia, but God turned it around and not only saved the Jewish people from massive Genocide, but He brought Haman’s own plans down upon him and the heads of his sons.  It is the same God who rules and reigns today over all nations.  He has not changed.  [Mal’akhi (Malachi) 3;6).

Pictures of ‘Amalek in History

There have been many countries that have come against Isra’el throughout world history that God has destroyed.  For example, there were the Canaanites, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Haman and the Persians, the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Syrian-Greeks, the Romans, and more recently in history, the Nazis, and among the Muslims (Isis and Hamas), just to name a few, and the same will happen to any other country that comes against the people and nation of Isra’el.  Although Hamas is presently still here, I do not believe they will be for long, but they will be destroyed just as all the other nations and global powers who have attacked the people and nation of Isra’el.

THOSE WHO TOUCH ISRA’EL TOUCH THE PUPIL OF GOD’S EYE

I think that it is critical for all to remember what is written by the prophet Z’kharyah (Zechariah),

For ADONAI-T’zva’ot [“the LORD of hosts”] has sent me on a glorious mission to the nations that plundered you, and this is what he says, “Anyone who injures you injures the very pupil of my [God’s] eye.  But I will shake my hand over them, and they will be plundered by those who were formerly their slaves.” [Z’kharyah (Zechariah) 2:8-9, CJB]

God will exact revenge for the people and nation of Isra’el, and it will be more severe than anything that any one particular Jew could do or accomplish.  For example, in Devarim (Deuteronomy) 32, we read,

Vengeance is mine, and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip; for their calamity is at hand, and their doom comes swiftly. [Devarim (Deuteronomy 32:43, ESV]

Or in Psalms 94, we read,

O LORD, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth! (Psalms 94:1, ESV)

Or again, in Nahum 1,

The LORD [Heb. ADONAI] is a jealous and avenging God; the LORD [ADONAI] is avenging and wrathful; the LORD [ADONAI] takes vengeance in his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. (Nahum 1:2, ESV)

This all traces back to the promise that God made to Avraham (Abraham), the first Patriarch of Isra’el:

I will make you a great nation, I will bless you, and I will make you name great; and you are to be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, but I WILL CURSE ANYONE WHO CURSES YOU; and by you (Avraham and all of the Jewish people) all of the families of the earth will be blessed. [Bereshith (Genesis) 12:2-3, CJB; emphasis added]

Those who attack Isra’el and the Jewish people do so at their own peril and place themselves in the way of great judgement from God.
